USDS Evaluation

United States Digital Service

The United States Digital Service is designed to reset the bar for what is possible in government.  USDS removes barriers to exceptional government service delivery. It is establishing standards to bring the government’s digital services in line with the best private sector service experiences, develop common platforms for re-use that will provide a consistent user experience, and collaborate with agencies to design, develop, and deploy excellent citizen-facing services.

In addition to the full time Digital Service team, digital experts engage through a Digital Reserves – serving on a full time on a team in Washington, DC for less than 1 year, often 4-6 months.

Reservists are chosen to focus on critical national projects and may spend 2 weeks to 1 year (4 to 6 months is ideal) working full time. They serve in a residency in Washington, DC. Reservists engage through the Digital Service and may work with one or multiple agencies (e.g. on Healthcare.gov or in the Department of Veterans Affairs). The DC-based team is made up of:
+ Site Reliability Engineers (SRE) or Dev Ops and Engineering Leads
+ User Experience (UX) experts/ Visual Designers
+ Project Managers (PM) with a strong technical expertise
